UnLoop FAQ

Short answers to what people ask before and after they install.

UnLoop hides Shorts in Chrome and in Safari on iPhone and Mac, and Pro adds more tools on iPhone and Mac. These answers say what it blocks, where it works, what is free, what is Pro and what the extension and apps collect. It does not change the YouTube app.

Where UnLoop works

Does UnLoop block Shorts inside the YouTube app?
No. For YouTube, UnLoop works in Chrome and in Safari, and it does not change the YouTube app. On iPhone, open YouTube in Safari to use it.
Can I block YouTube Shorts on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. Install the UnLoop iPhone app, turn on its Safari extension and watch YouTube in Safari. Hide Shorts from feeds and Open Shorts links in the normal player are free on iPhone. The iPhone setup steps are on the iPhone page.
Does UnLoop work on a Mac?
Yes. The Mac app adds UnLoop to Safari, where hiding Shorts from feeds and opening Shorts links in the normal player are free. One Pro subscription covers iPhone and Mac.
Is there an Android app?
No. UnLoop is a Chrome extension, an iPhone app and a Mac app.
How do I turn on the UnLoop Safari extension?
Install the app, then turn on UnLoop in Safari's extension settings on iPhone or Mac. Menu names change between versions, so follow the names you see on your device.
Which browser does UnLoop use on iPhone?
Safari. On iPhone, UnLoop is a Safari extension, so open YouTube in Safari to use it.

Shorts in YouTube

How do I block YouTube Shorts in Chrome?
Add the UnLoop extension to Chrome from the Chrome Web Store. It can hide Shorts from feeds, open Shorts links in the normal player and hide the Shorts tab. These three features are free. Hide the Shorts tab is off until you turn it on in the extension's popup.
What happens when I open a Shorts link?
In Chrome, and in Safari on iPhone and Mac, UnLoop sends the Shorts link to the regular watch page, so the video plays like any other. It does not change the YouTube app.
Can I hide the Shorts tab on YouTube?
Yes, in Chrome. Hide the Shorts tab hides YouTube's sidebar Shorts entry and the Shorts tab on YouTube's mobile site. It is off until you turn it on in the extension's popup.
Can I hide the Shorts tab in the YouTube app?
No. UnLoop does not change the YouTube app, so the Shorts tab stays there. Hide the Shorts tab is Chrome only.
Can I hide the Shorts tab in a phone browser?
Hide the Shorts tab is Chrome only. In Safari on iPhone, UnLoop hides Shorts from feeds and opens Shorts links in the normal player.

Free and Pro

What is free and what is Pro?
The Chrome extension is free: hide Shorts from feeds, open Shorts links in the normal player and hide the Shorts tab. On iPhone and Mac, hide Shorts from feeds and open Shorts links in the normal player are free too. Pro, on iPhone and Mac, adds hide recommendations and comments, focus mode, schedules, block Reels on Instagram and Facebook, block TikTok, streaks and time-saved stats. See the App Store subscription screen for price and terms.
Does the Chrome extension include Pro?
No. The Chrome extension is free and does not include Pro features. Pro is on iPhone and Mac.
Can UnLoop hide recommendations and comments?
Yes, with Pro, in YouTube in Safari on iPhone and Mac. Hide recommendations and comments clears suggested videos and the comment section so a video is just the video. The free Chrome extension does not include it.
Can UnLoop block Reels and TikTok?
Yes, with Pro, on iPhone and Mac. Pro includes Block Reels on Instagram and Facebook and Block TikTok. The Chrome extension does not include them.
How do focus mode and schedules work?
Focus mode keeps blocking on until you turn it off. Schedules turn blocking on and off automatically at the times you choose. Both are Pro features on iPhone and Mac.

Subscription and billing

How does one subscription cover iPhone and Mac?
Subscribe once and use Pro on both your iPhone and your Mac. Apple handles billing, so you manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple Account settings, and refunds go through Apple.
How do I cancel Pro?
Pro is a subscription bought through Apple. You manage or cancel it in your Apple Account subscription settings.
Can I get a refund for Pro?
Refunds go through Apple, not UnLoop. Apple decides each request.

Privacy

What do the extension and apps collect?
The extension and apps collect no data and use no third-party tracking. In Chrome, the extension asks for storage, which saves your settings on your device so your choices are remembered between visits, and for access to YouTube pages, where it hides Shorts. This website is separate: it uses Vercel Web Analytics, which records anonymous page views and install-button clicks, without cookies.
Does this website use cookies?
This website uses Vercel Web Analytics, which works without cookies.

Parents

Does UnLoop replace YouTube's parental controls?
No. YouTube has its own parental controls, and UnLoop does not replace them. Check YouTube Help for what they cover on your child's account. UnLoop hides Shorts in Chrome and in Safari, and it does not change the YouTube app. You can use both.
Is UnLoop a parental lock?
No. UnLoop hides Shorts from feeds in Chrome and in Safari. It is not a lock, and a person with access to the device can turn off or remove an extension.

Comparison and names

How is UnLoop different from other Shorts blockers?
Many Shorts blockers hide Shorts from feeds in Chrome. UnLoop's free features do the same. UnLoop also works in Safari on iPhone and Mac, adds Pro features, and states its permissions and what it collects on this site. Compare the permissions and data statements on each store listing before you install.
Is UnLoop affiliated with YouTube, Instagram, Facebook or TikTok?
No. UnLoop is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by YouTube, Google, Instagram, Facebook, Meta or TikTok. Those names are used only to say what UnLoop works with.
