UnLoop

YouTube Shorts blocker Chrome extension

UnLoop hides Shorts on YouTube in Chrome, and lists exactly what it asks for.

UnLoop is a free Chrome extension that hides YouTube Shorts from your feeds, sends Shorts links to the normal video player and can hide the Shorts tab. It is for people who watch YouTube in Chrome and want Shorts out of the way while the videos they chose stay. It does not change the YouTube app.

What UnLoop does in Chrome

The extension has three features, and all three are free. The popup has one switch for each: Enable redirect, Hide Shorts from feed and Hide Shorts tab.

Without UnLoop

With UnLoop

The home feed in Chrome without and with the Shorts shelf. Hiding Shorts from feeds is free on Chrome, iPhone and Mac.

Hide Shorts from feeds

Removes Shorts shelves and videos that link to Shorts from the lists YouTube shows, such as home, search results and subscription grids.

The extension removes them as the page loads and changes. In the popup this is the Hide Shorts from feed switch. It is on by default. Hide Shorts from feed works while Enable redirect is on.

Free.

Open Shorts links in the normal player

Redirects a Shorts link to the regular watch page so the video plays like any other.

The video still plays, on the regular watch page.

In the popup this is the Enable redirect switch. It is on by default. With Enable redirect off, an Open in normal player button appears on the desktop Shorts player.

Free.

Hide the Shorts tab

Hides YouTube's sidebar Shorts entry and the Shorts tab on YouTube's mobile site. It is off until you turn it on in the popup.

In the popup this is the Hide Shorts tab switch. It is off by default. It does not hide the Shorts tab on channel pages.

Free. Chrome only.

Without UnLoop

With UnLoop

Hide the Shorts tab is available in Chrome only and is off until you turn it on in the extension's popup.

What the Chrome extension leaves out

  • Pro features. The Chrome extension does not include Pro features. Pro, on iPhone and Mac, adds hide recommendations and comments, focus mode, schedules, block Reels on Instagram and Facebook, block TikTok, streaks and time-saved stats.
  • Other sites. The extension works on YouTube pages and nowhere else.
  • Channel pages. It does not hide the Shorts tab on channel pages.
  • The YouTube app. UnLoop does not change it.

Where the extension works

The extension is for Chrome. It hides Shorts on YouTube pages in the browser.

For Safari, use the apps instead. Safari extensions work in Safari, not inside the YouTube app.

What the extension asks for

The extension asks Chrome for two permissions.

storage
Saves your settings on your device so your choices are remembered between visits.
Access to YouTube pages
Lets the extension hide Shorts on YouTube.

The extension and apps collect no data and use no third-party tracking.

This website is separate. It uses Vercel Web Analytics, which records anonymous page views and install-button clicks, without cookies.
